The existence of the traditional ‘tower’ PC has been under threat for some time by the proliferation of mini laptops, tablets and even smart phones. However, their extinction has been hastened as Intel has launched its 4th generation of NUC (pronounced ‘nook’).

The Intel NUC Kit (Next Unit of Computing) is a basic platform Mini PC that ships with the core components of a computing system, but requires users to add their own Solid State Hard Drive (SSD), RAM, wireless card, operating system, monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse to make fully functional. Whether you’re replacing a faulty PC or as part of your Windows XP upgrade plan, the Intel NUC is an ideal system for the business user – and it will declutter your work space in an instant! The unit measures just 4”x4” but has the same power and capabilities as any regular PC or laptop. Indeed, the latest incarnation will hold an Intel Core i5 ‘Haswell’ processor.

It really comes into its own as a portable device. Gone are the days where you have to sync your home laptop with your PC at the office. It comes with a bracket for mounting on the back of a monitor and it’s so small it can be easily removed, transported and plugged into a monitor at another location. Because it’s solid state, there are no moving parts that can get damaged in transit.

Other features include:

  • Intel Core i3 or Core i5 Processor 4th Generation
  • Up to 240GB Solid State Drive
  • 1 mini-HDMI 1.4a Port*
  • 1 mini-Display Port 1.2*

Supporting ultra-high definition 4k displays and multiple monitor functionality

  • USB 2.0 & 3.0 Ports
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • 8 GB standard (max 16GB) RAM
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
